(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On March 17, 2016 at approximately 12:44 p.m. the Treaty Three Police Service with the assistance of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a male who had barricaded himself in a residence on Couchiching First Nation.
Members of the Treaty Three Police Service and Rainy River District OPP are currently at the scene.
For the safety of the public, officers have set up a perimeter surrounding the residence as the investigation continues. The OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to provide support containing the area. The Treaty Three Police and OPP Crime Units are assisting with the investigation.
The occurrence is in the early stages and police are requesting the public refrain from attending the area. Motorists are advised that Highway 11 approximately 7 kilometres east of Fort Frances between the CN rail crossing and the Noden Causeway is part of the perimeter area and closed to ensure public safety and that of the officers at the scene until further notice.
