[GREENSTONE] INCREASING SUPPORT FOR VICTIMS OF CRIME
by Top of Lake Superior News | Mar 23, 2016 | Greenstone News, OPP News | 0 |
(GREENSTONE, ON.) – On March 22, 2016 the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Greenstone Victim Services entered into an Agency Agreement to better support victims of crime in the Municipality of Greenstone and surrounding areas.
Greenstone Victim Services has been providing 24/7 practical and emotional support to victims of crime since its creation in 2006. Their services have historically been complimentary to the ongoing police duty to assist victims of crime, but the two organizations did not have an official agreement that allowed the proactive exchange of information.
In signing this agreement, Greenstone Victim Services and the OPP have formalized their relationship to improve the communication of information and provide a more effective and coordinated response to the needs of victims in the community. The agreement has made Greenstone Victim Services an agent of the OPP, which allows for the proactive sharing of information for the purposes of helping to ensure that victims have greater access to critical victims’ services.
Moving forward, Greenstone Victim Services will now be better equipped with information from the OPP to better fulfil their mandate to assist victims of crime. If you have been victimized in the past and feel that you could benefit from the support of Greenstone Victim Services, they can be contacted by calling (807) 854-4357.
