(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On April 16, 2017 at 3:29 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible suspended driver in the Town of Fort Frances.


Officers located the motor vehicle in the east end of Fort Frances. Officers attempted a traffic stop however the driver failed to stop for police. Police followed the motor vehicle to a residence on the 900 Block of Christie Avenue. The driver, Rhonda Mae JOHNSON, age 39 years of Fort Frances, was arrested at the scene and transported to OPP Detachment for breath tests. The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory 7 days. The driver was subsequently charged with,


-Drive while Ability Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code


-Flight from Police contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code


-Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code


-Drive while Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code


-Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code


-Fail to Comply with Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code


-Fail to Provide Sample contrary to section 254(3) of the Criminal Code


Johnson was also charged with 4 Highway Traffic Act infractions


She was held in custody and is to appear in Fort Frances Court on April 18, 2017 to answer to the charge.
