OPP ARREST AND CHARGE DRIVER OF STOLEN VEHICLE
(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Sunday, January 31, 2016 at approximately 6:40 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regarding a driver that had failed to stop for a customs inspection.
Officers were provided the description of the vehicle, being a Toyota Sienna van, and subsequently, the driver was located driving north bound on Highway 61.
Officers activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to stop for police. The driver continued north bound on Highway 61, and then exited onto Boundary Drive, then onto Hacquoil Road where the driver attempted to drive into a private driveway but slid into the ditch.
The driver fled from the vehicle, officers located and arrested him without incident.
Investigation revealed that the driver had been driving a stolen vehicle.
James HUFFINE, 46 years of age, from Etobicoke, Ont, was arrested and charged with;
-Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer,
-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code.
He was held in custody for a video court appearance and then remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
