ROUTINE STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVER AND DRUG CHARGE
(RED LAKE, ON) – Officers of the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an adult male driver with impaired driving.
On June 25, 2016 at 12:53 a.m. Red Lake OPP stopped a 2007 motor vehicle for a minor traffic violation, on Pickerel drive in Red Lake. Following an investigation, officers determined the male driver was impaired. Officers also located a quantity of Cannabis Marijuana.
Julien THERIAULT, age 21, of Laval, Quebec, is charged with Impaired Operation of a motor Vehicle contrary to Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code and Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marijuana – under 30 grams, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
THERIAULT was released on a Promise to Appear in Red Lake Court on August 25, 2016. The vehicle was impounded for a minimum of 7 days and he was issued a mandatory drivers licence suspension.
