UPDATE – BUILDING DESTROYED BY FIRE IN SIOUX LOOKOUT

Fire Marshal has released the scene

 

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON) – The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 62 Front Street, in the municipality of Sioux Lookout on January 29, 2016 at approximately 3:23pm.

The OPP and Sioux Lookout Volunteer Fire Department were on scene within minutes. As a precaution several businesses and residences on Front Street were evacuated. Front Street was also closed between Fourth and Fifth Avenue. There were no injuries or fatalities but the second level of the structure was heavily damaged. Some surrounding businesses were also affected by smoke and water damage. The Office of the Fire Marshal was notified and the Northwest Region OPP crime unit, Sioux Lookout OPP detachment members, and the Sioux Lookout Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the investigation.  Emergency responders remained on scene overnight.

The Ontario Fire Marshal released the scene on January 30, 2016 at 5:10pm . As a result of the investigation, no foul play is suspected. The fire was determined to be due to “apparent accidental cause,” originating in a bathroom of one of the upstairs apartments. All emergency responders have now left the scene.
