(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Monday, March 14, 2016 at approximately 11:50 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check on Highway 11/17.
Officers stopped the driver of a vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, officers could detect an odour of Marihuana emitting from the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the driver was in possession of a small amount of Marihuana and Cocaine.
A 19 year old male, from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, (CDSA)
-Possession of a Schedule ll Substance – Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams,
-Possession of a Schedule l Substance – Cocaine.
He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 10, 2016.
Also, on Tuesday, March 15 at approximately 9:35 pm, officers responded to a report of an erratic driver on Highway 102. An officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
Upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was issued the roadside screening device and registered an alert. She was issued a seven day drivers licence suspension.
While conducting the investigation, the officer also observed a small amount of Cocaine within the vehicle.
A 42 year old female from Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with,
-Possession of a Schedule l Substance – Cocaine
She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 24, 2016 to answer to the charge.
