OPP INVESTIGATE ATV COLLISION IN SHUNIAH
Driver of ATV arrested and charged
(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Saturday, July 18, 2015 at approximately 5:51 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Superior North EMS and Shuniah Fire Department responded to a collision involving an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and a vehicle on Haugen Road in the Municipality of Shuniah.
The driver of a south bound ATV collided with the driver of a north bound Hyundai Elantra on Haugen Road causing the ATV to roll over onto its side. The female driver and female passenger on the ATV were both ejected.
Both the driver and passenger of the ATV were transported to hospital by ambulance. One of the females sustained non life threatening injuries, and the other female sustained critical injuries.
On October 8, 2015, the passenger involved in the collision, Laureen WAITE, 39 years of age, from Terrace Bay, succumbed to her injuries in hospital.
Upon an extensive and lengthy investigation, on March 12, 2016, Sarah GRAHAM, 43 years of age, from the Municipality of Shuniah was arrested and charged with the following offences:
-Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death,
-Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content – Motor Vehicle – Cause Accident with Fatality, both contrary to the Criminal Code.
She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 19, 2016 to answer to the charges
